Help us achieve our mission:
To preserve, interpret, and celebrate the unique history, diversity and achievements of the Village of Park Forest, Illinois through exhibits, publications, and special programs;
To educate residents, students and visitors, in all aspects of the village history;
To promote and support historical research;
To encourage donations and enlist volunteers, for the Park Forest Local History Collection and Archive and the 1950s Park Forest House Museum;
To honor those who have contributed to our community over a long period of time.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
We operate the 1950s Park Forest House Museum to
educate people on how Park Forest was developed and to bring to life
what the pioneer citizens experienced. Society volunteers
continue to work with and care for the Local History Collection and
Archive, begun by the Park Forest library in 1981. The collection
contains thousands of photos and documents relating to its history and
growth. Currently, about a third of the "OH! Park Forest" oral
history transcripts, done in 1980-1981, are available through this
website. The Society Board of Directors is currently
searching for a new home for the collection while a large portion
of it is in remote storage. The library and the society can still answer questions and the society can provide images.
The Park Forest Historical Society invites you, as a
former or current resident, or as a friend, or as a scholar of our
history, to become a member. We are an independent
501(c)(3)not-for-profit organization.
We present a number of special programs each year from
September to June involving the mutual "remembrance of things past."
And each year, we induct some of our most productive residents, former
or current, into the Park Forest Hall of Fame. The programs we
put on and the plans we have for the collection will require member
support and involvement.
You can help keep alive Park Forest's history by becoming a
member, or by renewing your membership. Help us preserve,
commemorate, and celebrate the history of this unique village. Annual
dues are indicated below. Please check your label for the last time we
have recorded your paid dues.
