Park Forest Public Library in the Park Forest House Museum

Library history display in 141 Forest Blvd, 2008.
What was to become the Park Forest Public Library began in a rental unit.
Leona Ringering was the library's first official librarian.

By September 4, 1952, the Community Council set up a circulating library of
books from the Illinois State Library in Forest Boulevard School. To help celebrate its 40th
birthday in its first permanent building when we first opened in 1998, the Park Forest Public Library set up a library in
the  schoolroom closet.  In our new building at 141 Forest Blvd, we have a refreshed version of that history done by former library employee, Karen Blackful.  The volunteer library had a collection of 3,000 state-owned
books, and loaned 400 books a week to residents. It occupied a full room in the
Forest Boulevard School building. The closet library  began in Village Hall later.
It soon overflowed the closet and took over a room at Village Hall.
