1950s Holidays at the Museum

If you have seen it once, you have NOT seen it all!

The Park Forest Historical Society's 1950s Museum is ever-changing! If you have seen it once, you have NOT seen it all! The museum is decorated for the holidays and displays change with the seasons. This allows a fresh experience for our guests and an opportunity for us to show off our holiday and seasonal items from the past.

Valentine's Day at the Museum (February)

Step back into a 1950s Valentine's Day! Remember or experience for the first time, what Valentine's Day was like in the 1950s. We create displays throughout the museum featuring vintage valentines and crepe paper candy baskets, construction paper heart-shaped valentine "mailboxes", red honeycomb, puffy hearts, and other vintage decorations of the past.

Easter at the Museum (March - April)

The Easter Bunny comes to the museum to spread 1950s nostalgia to our guests. We have a number of Easter storybooks, a tin lithograph rabbit, Easter die-cuts, and plenty of Easter baskets, grass, and candy!

Halloween at the Museum (October)

Treat yourself to a spooky walk down memory lane! The Museum gets dressed up for Halloween every October featuring fun and nostalgic items such as Gurley candles, costumes and masks, candy corn and pumpkins, die-cuts, jack-o-lanterns, and everything 1950s Halloween.

Thanksgiving at the Museum (November)

Gurley Candles of Pilgrims, Indians, and turkeys could be bought at any dimestore back in the 1950s. These items made decorating for Thanksgiving special.

Christmas at the Museum (December)

Kids are in wool snowsuits, and Dad is wearing a fedora as they travel to visit family during a 1950s Christmas. The Museum becomes a magical display in December. Rosbro plastic elves, Gurley candles, metal trees, vintage cookbooks and recipes are just some of the wonders you will find in our museum at Christmas time.
